Pastured Poultry

The pastured poultry of Emerald Glen Farm is raised in portable, floorless shelters that allow our birds to eat copious amounts to fresh forage.  Our chickens do NOT receive antibiotics, steroids, added growth hormones, ground animal parts, manure, or arsenic-laced feed.  They DO receive local whole grains (no grain by-products) with organic kelp-based minerals to supplement their fresh forage diet.  We raise double breasted Cornish Cross broilers with a carcass size of 4-5 lbs.

Why pastured poultry?  Pastured poultry is a humane, ecologically and environmentally sound method to raise chickens.  The chlorophyll in fresh forages cleanses the meat, lowering the saturated fat and cholesterol and increasing the vitamin content compared with conventional, fecal contaminated, concentration camp chickens.  Our birds are taken to a small, local USDA processor where we watch and assist with processing and inspect our birds for quality.  The manure from our birds serves as fertilizer, falling directly on growing forage.  This locks in the nitrogen and prevents nutrient runoff and waste.  Broilers are moved every day (away from manure), so we have no disease problems. It’s amazing how many problems we don’t face when we do things Nature’s way...
